UPDATE: 2/26/16 7:00pm PST: Yesterday, we reported that trademarks and logos had surfaced for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. As expected, the games were announced during the pocket monster-themed Nintendo Direct earlier this morning. In the announcement video above, the developer revealed that the title will be released worldwide in Holiday 2016 on the 3DS, and will support nine different languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Korean, Japanese, Italian, and both traditional and simplified Chinese).
Following that announcement, the Japanese giant also revealed that eShop versions of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellowâwhich are slated to release February 27âwill work with the Pokémon Bank. That means you’ll be able to transfer your precious pocket monsters from the original trio of titles to the newer games, including Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Original Story: Nintendo has trademarked Pokémon Sun, and Pokémon Moon ahead of tomorrowâs Nintendo Direct, and excited fans have already taken to the web to speculate.
With the recently announced Pokémon-themed Nintendo Direct going down tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. PST, the official Pokémon Day–which is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow–this weekend, AND the upcoming 3DS eShop release of the original trio of titles on February 27th, weâve been hyped for all things pocket monster-related for a while now. As long-time fans of the series, we canât wait to find out what surprises Nintendo has in store for tomorrowâs slate of announcements. It looks like one of them may have already surfaced online.
Two separate trademarks; one for Pokémon Sun, and one for Pokémon Moon; have emerged on the European trademark website. Considering that weâve been due for a new entry in the series since X and Y released back in 2013, the possibility that Sun and Moon are actually going to be revealed isnât that far off base. There have been rumors for a while now, with fans offering potential titles like Pokémon Z, and Pokémon Rainbow–just to name a few.
Itâs worth mentioning that Nintendo has trademarked things in the past (like Pokémon Delta Emerald, and Pokémon Gray) that were never announced. What gives the potential Sun and Moon titles more weight is that logos (pictured at the top of the page) were included with the entries.
Though Nintendo told Nerdist that they âhave nothing to announce on this topic,â weâre hopeful that weâll find out more tomorrow, especially because they did not deny the existence of the trademarks, or note that it was an error. Of course, that is just speculation at the moment, as we won’t know for sure until tomorrow morning.
What are you hoping to hear during the stream tomorrow? Let us know in the comments!
