Track of the Day: Eagles of Death Metal’s ‘Complexity’ is ’70s Rock Perfection.

What might have happened if Cream (I know they were a ’60s band), T. Rex, and Lynyrd Skynyrd worked together to cover all the tracks on the classic psych-rock compilation, Nuggets? It might have sounded something like one of the newer tracks from the Eagles of Death Metal, the super duo of Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.

Having remained relatively quiet since 2008, Eagles of Death Metal’s new material is such a breath of fresh air and sees them cracking their blues-based rock wide open, adding a lot more of the boogie they hinted at on tracks from their previous album Heart On.

Their foray into a brighter, more well rounded version of their barn burning ’70s rock is complemented perfectly by their brand new music video, which features the duo looking like art-house curators and standing in a stark room with a mysterious amount of depth and several stair cases. And then, around the 1:45 mark, psychedelic colors and cosmic visuals accompany an instrumental breakdown and it feels like you are beholding a rip in the space-time continuum. Fucking rad.

If you are digging this track as much as I am, then you will be happy to know that the Eagles of Death Metal’s fourth album Zipper Down is scheduled for release on October 2.

Will you be picking up the album when it comes out? Have a favorite EoDM song? Leave it all in the comments.
