Toys’R’Us Debuting BATGIRL Figure and HARLEY QUINN Set at SDCC

Toys”R”Us is exclusively debuting a number of action figures and sets at this year’s upcoming San Diego Comic-Con–including the awesome Black Series Rancor Pit from Return of the Jedi–but these two have us very excited: a Batgirl figure based on Yvonne Craig’s portrayal of the character in the 1960’s television show, and a Harley Quinn + Batman playset.

The Batgirl figure is molded with 16 points of articulation which makes her one of the most articulated Barbara Gordons ever created, coming in a few articulation points more than the Legacy Silver Age Collector Figure released a few years back. Unlike a majority of Batgirl figures (and Batman figures, for that matter) that have been released in recent years, this one comes with a two-toned cloth cape. The cloth cape was a staple for superhero toys in my childhood, so it’s nice to see the effect used for this retro figure. The purple and gold hues of Batgirl’s original on-air color scheme have us really hoping that her current comic book costume which takes some inspiration from Yvonne’s costume, the Batgirl of Burnside, will be getting some DC Direct action figure love soon.

The Harley Quinn playset falls less in the category of action figures, and more in line with miniature vinyl statues that make perfect desk accessories to add to my one’s already crowded workspace. The set comes from the Justice League-branded line of figures that has a noticeable lack of female figures, so adding Harley is a welcome move, regardless of her lack of articulation. It’s an interesting pairing, as Harley is decked out in the same iconic harlequin jumpsuit in which she debuted on Batman: The Animated Series, while the Batman figure is donning the current New 52 incarnation of the cape, cowl and suit.

Stay tuned as we keep our eyes out for more great figures debuting at the 2015 San Diego Comic Convention!
