Since The Force Awakens merchandise made its market debut this past November, fans were quick to note that Rey, the female protagonist from the film, was left out of many toys. This, naturally, inspired fans across the internet to create the hashtag #WheresRey to express their desire for more of the force-sensitive hero. She was notably absent from a Target figurine pack that had Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren, and two nameless members of the First Order, and of course, Hasbro’s Monopoly playset. And last week at the Television Critics Associationâs press tour director J. J. Abrams voiced his disappointment that Rey was missing, saying “It doesn’t quite make sense why she wouldn’t be there. She’s somewhat important in the story.” But now, at long last, we’re getting our Rey toys! Hasbro is pushing a new line of toys to be released next month, including the new version of Monopoly that will include Rey.
Join Jessica Chobot as we discuss the characters who have been left out of the merchandise from some of Hollywood’s biggest recent blockbusters, and the reasons why we should’ve seen Rey toys hit the shelves sooner, on today’s Nerdist News.
