Tool’s future might be in the air at the moment, but for at least one night–specifically, Halloween–the band got back together and performed at Monster Mash in Tempe, Arizona. Of course, since it was Halloween, the gang was in costume, dressing up as Led Zeppelin and completing the look with a cover of “No Quarter”, a studio version of which is included on their 2000 box set Salival.

Before Halloween night, the last time the band performed “No Quarter” was August 26, 1998, so check out footage of that performance here, and video of last night’s rendition above.

After performing the song last night, frontman Maynard James Keenan said, “Good news, it’s f—ing Halloween! Bad news, we are not Led Zeppelin.” That comment could be taken lightly, but perhaps not after recent comments by Keenan, who claimed he had to be “conned” into playing the Halloween gig with Tool.

During a recent interview, Keenan said some insensitive things about fans of Tool who don’t understand the humor behind their albums: “Yeah, it’s there, but people miss it because they’re so focused on the other bullsh-t. It’s lost. Insufferable people… It’s just ridiculous, retards. I’m sorry. Can’t help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up.”

The interviewer also noted that even talking about Tool is enough to visibly frustrate Keenan: “But as with any time he’s asked about Tool, his answers quickly become curt. A hint of exasperation creeps into his voice and he exhales heavily through his nose.”

What we’re saying is that we hope you enjoy Tool’s Halloween shenanigans, because it’s very possible this is the last we’ll ever see of the group.
