Too Cool: Biologically Inspired Concept Art for IS THIS HEAVEN?

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. With all the reboots, remakes, trilogies and sequels out there, it’s always refreshing to see an original idea — especially in sci-fi. Take Bastiaan Koch’s new movie, Is This Heaven. So far the film’s plot is a little bare-bones. According to the film’s Facebook page:

“Jack, a soldier in a future war, finds love in the after-life only to be revived, causing him to repeatedly throw himself back into the fight ever harder, seeking death. When he is finally discharged, detained and restrained, his only hope to rejoin his love is an unlikely friendship Jack found whilst sparing an enemy’s life; a young girl named Mathilda. But is his love real, or a figment of his imagination? For some, it does not matter, as long as it drives him to continue to win the war.”

Not only is Is This Heaven? an original concept, its creator, Dutch-American writer/director Bastiaan Koch, is someone whose work you might be a little familiar with. As a visual effects artist, producer, and supervisor specializing in mecha and exoskeleton robotics at Industrial Light & Magic, Koch has worked on Sunshine, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, The Dark Knight, The Avengers, and Pacific Rim.

Now that we’ve seen these biologically inspired planes from UK concept designer Al Brady, we are even more on board. That’s right… “biologically inspired” as in, pterodactyl inspired! We’ll take one of each, please.

Take a look at the simply stunning concept art below:

WTF? Isn’t that the plot of one of those recent Tom Cruise movies? Have I slipped into an alternate reality? The whole soldier back from the dead groundhog day reboot thing. This isn’t new. Why are you saying it’s new?
