Tom Hardy Wants to Play The Punisher (Or Sam Fisher, Finally)

Tom Hardy is no stranger to comic book films. He saw a major surge in recognition after portraying Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, but Hardy was also originally slated to appear in Suicide Squad as Rick Flag. Sadly, Hardy had to drop out for scheduling conflicts with another film. While speaking with Collider recently, Hardy expressed his disappointment to miss out on Suicide Squad, but also revealed a desire to continue to work in the world of comic book movies, and maybe video game movies as well.

Collider: I heard Warner Bros. has a few more superhero movies, maybe one or two that they’re developing [Laughs].

Hardy: I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something… I don’t know what I want.

I’ve said it before, in a full article, and I will say it again: Marvel needs to bring The Punisher into the fold now that Daredevil has been such a success. I won’t get too into it, I’ve done that once already, but the darker aesthetic and more adult-oriented story is exactly where Frank Castle thrives. Now that someone as big as Hardy has voiced interest, things might move faster with this property…or not at all. Who knows? The comment on Splinter Cell is interesting as well. The last anyone heard of a Splinter Cell movie, Hardy and director Doug Liman were already attached and production was slated to start this year. So, with Hardy still wishing for the film, it seems to be farther away than we first thought.

What do you think? Think Hardy has the chops to pull off either/both of these badasses? Let us know in the comments below!
