Tom Cruise Developing New JACK REACHER Novel For Sequel

About this time last year, Tom Cruise produced and starred in writer-director Christopher McQuarrie’s Jack Reacher, an adaptation of author Lee Child’s novel One Shot, which introduced the cinematic world to the popular former military man who wanders America kicking ass and not taking very many names. Well, it seems that Cruise will get another crack at playing the iconic pulp novel anti-hero, as Deadline is reporting that he is now developing a script for Child’s newest Reacher novel, Never Go Back, which was released earlier this fall.

The plot of the book, and presumably the movie as well, is as follows: “Reacher heads back to his old military based in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested, and Reacher finds himself being charged with pummeling one guy and fathering a child with a woman. He can’t remember either transgression but gets to the bottom of it with cunning and sometimes brute force.”

What do you think? Would you be excited to see another Jack Reacher movie? The first one ended up a pleasant surprise to me. Let us know in the comments below. Also, check out what happened when I got a crash course in stunts and fighting with the crew of the first film.

  1. Jack Reacher says:

They ruined the character by having a 5 foot 7 inch retard play Jack. Jack is a thinking man, always one step ahead. Also, he doesn’t like to drive cars yet they have a car chase in the movie…overall Tom is not the guy to play Jack, and they should not deviate in the movie from the attributes that make Jack so lethal.

I was so excited to see that Ben Folds was on the Nerdist podsact, and it was even more delightful when I got online and saw the music video as well. I currently listen to the Nerdist and JV Club podsacts; are there any others you’d recommend? Also, I feel that I should thank you because I’m pretty sure my love for Ben Folds came from you, via Megan Hadley, back in high school. So, thanks!

I had to do vision bdoras for that Magical Manifesters class, and it was the only part I actually HATED doing. And I hung them where I can see them from my couch and 1/2 the time I just feel like they’re mocking me. Ha! Probably not their purpose! I’m glad you decided to just DO IT, and I just added you to the recommended blogs on my blog. Since I have about 2 readers (you and my mom) I figure it should give you a lot more traffic.

Wait, the fact that the first one barely made its money back in the US wasn’t a lesson to them? Just goes to show the glories of the global market, where fewer people will have read the books to know how far the movies go astray, and everyone loves Tom Cruise.

  5. Mike says:

Agree with previous posts- Tom Cruise cannot BE Jack Reacher!! Totally miscast… I like TC as an actor, but this is too much of a stretch.

  6. Jupiter0 says:

I couldn’t believe how bad the first one was. I remember laughing the whole way through on how terrible it was. It was like someone took a great big ball of bad movie cliches and crap acting and threw it at my brain. I felt markedly stupider after having watched it.

Can’t wait for the next one!

  7. I feel like they should have gotten the guy who plays Alcide in True Blood and start over. How can you skip all of the good stuff in the series that we love about Reacher and go to the end? there is an entire sequence of events that leads to this we end up ignoring. Bad decision.

  8. rance says:

I absolutely love Jack Reacher novels and the first movie was pretty decent but it’s hard to overlook the fact that Jack is a massive blonde monster that kicks ass and is visually intimidating…none of which Tom Cruise displays. I mean seriously the guy is 5’6″ and maybe 150 lbs soaking wet while Jack is 6’5″ 250 lbs! In every single book it repeatedly reminds you of how big Jack is and watching the film I was thinking that Cruise doesn’t fit the character
