TLC Announce Final Album, Ask Fans To Help Crowdfund LP

Sixteen years ago, TLC were singing about how they didn’t want no scrubs. However, as the R&B group embarks on the production of their new (and final!) album, they’ve retracted their entire “No Scrub” prerequisite and, thanks to Kickstarter, they would appreciate financial love from anyone.

That includes busters, guys who think they’re fly and men who happen to have a dead-beat ass.

In an interview with TIME, Chilli said one of the reasons why she and T-Boz decided to crowdfund the project was so they could retain complete creative control, which is something that doesn’t always happen when you get a record label involved.

“Working with Kickstarter and all of the wonderful things that they’ve done, and their excitement [about] wanting to work with us — you definitely don’t want to work with someone who’s not excited about your project because they’re not going to put their heart, sweat and soul into it like we’re going to do.”

TLC is currently asking for $150,000 and, as of Tuesday morning, 735 backers have already pledged nearly $110,000 with 28 days to go in fundraising. A full list of rewards and details regarding the album can be found on the project’s Kickstarter page.

As you may know, however, TLC isn’t the first band to use crowdfunding in order to finance their musical endeavors. If you feel bitten by the philanthropic bug, allow us to suggest the following projects that still need your moolah.

1. BrokenCYDE need $30,000 to finish their new album and cover touring costs. So far, they’ve raised $1,021 with 20 days left.

2. Julia Nunes needs $25,000 to mix, master and package her new album. So far, she’s raised $63,188 with 14 days left.

3. Robert Trujillo needs an undisclosed amount to finish his documentary film about bassist Jaco Pastorius. So far, he’s raised 75% of his goal with 10 days left.

ICYMI: TLC announced they would be touring this summer with New Kids On The Block and Nelly. For more information on tour dates and album updates, follow the lovely ladies on Twitter at @officialTLC.
