Titan Comics Announces DOCTOR WHO: THE NINTH DOCTOR Ongoing Series

Doctor Who’s Ninth Doctor–as played by Christopher Eccleston–was the Doctor used to headline the revived Doctor Who TV series in 2005. Eccleston’s Doctor quickly became a fan favorite, but he left the series after only a single season and he also declined the opportunity to reprise his role for The Day of The Doctor 50th anniversary special.

However, the Ninth Doctor’s adventures are far from over. BBC and Titan Comics have revealed that Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor will become the fourth Doctor Who ongoing comic book series. The Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors each have their own ongoing Doctor Who comic book series as well. The recently wrapped five-issue Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor miniseries by Cavan Scott and Blair Shedd was essentially a test run for Titan’s newest Doctor Who ongoing series. It featured a previously untold adventure of the Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, and Captain Jack Harkness.

Scott will write the new Ninth Doctor series as well, with Adriana Melo illustrating the first three issues’ storylines. According to Scott, Rose and Jack will once again be accompanying the Doctor in the new series.

“It’s absolutely fantastic that the Ninth Doctor is returning for more adventures with Rose and Captain Jack,” Scott said in a statement. “The new ongoing series kicks off a new era and a new mission for this much-loved TARDIS team. Along the way they’ll encounter old friends and foes as well as startling new faces. I’ve been blown away by the love for Doctor Number Nine that I’ve seen at comic cons and signings over the last year. It’s a real privilege to be continuing the Ninth Doctor’s story. It really is the trip of a lifetime.”

Titan Comics is also publishing a Doctor Who comic book miniseries about Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor. But if that miniseries also proves successful, it seems likely that Titan could give the Eighth Doctor his own ongoing title as well.
