Time to Plan a Literary Sleepover in Tokyo

It’s time I take a trip to Tokyo. I’ve always wanted to visit; the food sounds amazing, and as of November 5th, there will be an absolutely perfect hostel for me to stay in. You see, the Japanese know how to keep a girl happy: they are opening a hostel outfitted like a library. It is called Book & Bed Tokyo.

Book & Bed Tokyo has accommodations at price ranges from 3,800 to 6,000 yen ($32 to $50) per night and boasts a number of different sleeping arrangements. There are two types of more private spaces, like the one featured above, though they are all single occupancy. The Compact compartment is 205 centimeters (6.7 feet) by 85 centimeters (2.8 feet) while the roomier Standard compartment is 205 centimeters by 129 centimeters (4.2 feet). There are 12 of these bookshelf sleeping spaces available, as well as 18 other bunk spaces which may be more familiar if you are used to staying in a traditional Japanese capsule hotel.

In addition to providing a safe and secure place to rest your head, Book & Bed Tokyo will have more than 1,700 volumes of material for you to choose from for your reading pleasure. (They are hoping to expand the library up to 3,000 eventually.) Because they are hoping to attract both local and international travelers, there will be selections in both Japanese and English for your perusal as well as a number of travel guides for Tokyo and Japan.

But don’t get too attached. While the reading materials are available while you’re staying on the premise, they are not for sale.

Book & Bed Tokyo opens on November 5th, and is located just a few blocks from Ikebukuro Station. If you’re planning on going to Tokyo any time soon, I hope you’ll check out the options here and tell me how it is.
