Throwing Cases Of Beer Around For Fun And Profit

Some nerds are orderly folks. Everything in its place, everything neat and tidy. For those of you in that category, here’s a video that will either frighten or intrigue you, depending on how accepting you might be of new ways to sort things. It’s footage of Romanian beer warehouse workers sorting pallets of beer by sliding and throwing open cases of bottles all over the place.

This raises several questions: How are there not dozens, or hundreds, of broken bottles all over the floor? Is sliding better than throwing? Will every one of these bottles explode when the hapless ultimate consumer pops them open? What the hell is going on here?

Maybe my wife will accept this as an explanation for why my office is always so messy. Dropping stuff on the floor or throwing it in the corner? My way of sorting things. (Is she buying it? She’s not buying it. Damn.)

So glad those aren’t full bottles. Beer absolutely HATES being shaken about that way! The structure of the beer cannot handle all of that movement, hence why imported beers are actually made locally, they import the raw ingredients (i.e. barley, yeast, hops. Local water is then chemically modified to match the water at the base brewery), not the finished product. The brewing is then HIGHLY regulated so that the beer tastes correctly.

  2. That answers the spill part, but broken glass would still seem to be a hazard…

FYI – it’s a recycling plant. They are sorting empty bottles returned by restaurants in the area. If you look you can see that none of the bottles have tops. In Germany you pay close to 0.15 deposit on every glass bottle and don’t get it back unless you return it whole. They then actually clean and sterilize the bottles to re-use them.
