One of the highlights of Comic-Con was director Taika Waititi‘s hilarious short by Thor: Ragnarok, which explained what Thor was doing during the events of Captain America: Civil War. Fans seemed to especially enjoy Thor’s remarkably normal Australian roommate, Darryl Jacobson, as played by writer and director Daley Pearson. There’s even been a petition to make a Thor and Darryl comedy series on Netflix! But Waititi may have something even better in mind.
While speaking with IGN, Waititi said âI think you probably could see [Darryl] again. There may be other little pieces of that thing that everyone saw that may just be a small part of a bigger thing.â The report went on to speculate that more installments of the Thor and Darryl mockumentary could be made, or perhaps Pearson could make a cameo in Thor: Ragnarok.
Now, there are some people who may not understand the appeal of Darryl, since Jacobson intentionally underplayed him and acted as a straight man to Thor. But that’s the exact reason why Darryl deserves a comeback. Darryl was so completely unfazed by Thor’s antics; he’s the kind of guy who would barely blink if Thor were ever turned into a frog. We’re not that saying that Thor is goin’ froggy in this film, but it has happened in the comics. If that history repeats itself in the MCU, it’d be nice to have a loyal bloke down on Earth who won’t judge.
Another argument in Daryl’s favor is that Chris Hemsworth really went for the goofy humor when playing off of Pearson. We doubt that Thor: Ragnarok is going to become a complete farce, but it does help the film if its comedic moments are actually funny.
