This Week at NerdMelt Showroom: Prompter, Dan Mintz, Willow Creek, and More!

NerdMelt Showroom

You look great today. Yes, you and yes, today, that is, whatever day it is when you’re reading this. Do you know what else looks great? Why, this week’s shows at NerdMelt Showroom at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles, like Prompter, Dan Mintz, Willow Creek, and more!

July 20th at 7pm it’s Prompter!

Troy Conrad‘s newest creation! Comics use a teleprompter to deliver a TED Talk-style presentation. When the teleprompter unexpectedly freezes, the performer must rely on their ability to improvise and continue their talk on the absurd subject until the prompter comes back on. How much fun can comics have with a supposedly “broken” teleprompter? Featuring presentations by: Chris Fairbanks, Cathy Ladman, Jon Daly, Henry Phillips, Harland Williams, plus a Special Guest!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

July 20th at 9pm it’s An Evening with Dan Mintz!

Join Dan Mintz for a night of Dan Mintz doing standup and more. Featuring special guests B.J. Novak (The Office, Inglourious Basterds), Dan Levy (Your Face or Mine), and Cameron Esposito (Put Your Hands Together).

$5.

July 22nd at 8pm it’s Nerdist Open Mic!

nerdmeltopenmic NerdMelt Showroom

Come watch Matt Mira and Kyle Clark host this comedy free-for-all. You’ll see brand new comics, comics you know and love trying out new material (Chris Hardwick and Kumail Nanjiani are frequent drop ins), and the magic that is live comedy.

Free.

July 23rd at 8pm it’s Bobcat Goldthwait presents Willow Creek!

Bobcat Goldthwait brings his new horror flick Willow Creek back to NerdMelt for a second chance for you to catch an exclusive screening of the film plus a Q&A with Bobcat himself. Get your tickets today. The first screening sold out fast! Despite warnings from the locals, Jim and his girlfriend Kelly venture into Bigfoot country to retrace the steps of famous researchers Patterson and Gimlin, with hopes of capturing their own footage.

Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait. Starring Alexie Gilmore and Bryce Johnson.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

July 24th at 8:30pm it’s The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail!

Meltdown NerdMelt Showroom

This week, Jonah and Kumail are both on assignment, so The Meltdown Show called in the only guy who could fill both their roles simultaneously, T.J. Miller! Join T.J. as he hosts a night full of laughs. Featuring Sean Patton, Cameron Esposito, Jim Hamilton, Brendon Walsh, Aisha Tyler, and the continued Jeselnik Offensive residency.

$8.

July 25th at 7pm it’s Baby Talk with Dan Levy!

Baby Talk with Dan Levy

Brand new father Dan Levy and two comedian friends work out new material, then sit down with a child between the ages of 5-12 years old, in hopes of getting into his or her mind, so Dan can find out what he’s in for. This month, catch Jerrod Carmichael, JC Coccoli, Daniel Kinno, and a 5 year old.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

July 25th at 9pm it’s RISK! Storytelling Show!

RISK! is the show where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public. Stories they’d normally only tell to close friends. At the RISK! Live shows, the brightest stars of TV, film and literature drop their usual act and show a side of themselves you’ve never seen before. This month’s theme: “What’s Your Problem?” with Jay Mohr (Jerry Maguire, Jay Mohr Sports on Fox Sports Radio, Saturday Night Live), Margot Leitman (author of Gawky… Tales Of An Extra Long Awkward Phase), Jen Curran (Harvard Sailing Team), Danny Lobell (Comical Radio, Rise Of The Radio Show), and Amanda Egge (writer/The Moth winner).

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

July 26th at 7pm it’s The Friday Forty!

Scott Gimple and Dave Holmes host this current-affairs sketch-comedy quiz show where the performers get a little liquid courage to help them answer 40 questions about the events of the last 7 days! With special guests Jenny Slate and Damien Fahey!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

July 26th at 9pm it’s Horrible Movie Night!

Shout at the movies! We screen the worst films you’ve never seen, and invite YOU to roast them — the best one-liners of the night will win prizes. If you like MST3K and RiffTrax, this is your scene!

Your hosts for the evening, John Mathot (Disney’s Phineas & Ferb) and Susan Wright (The Because Show podcast), will feature 1976’s Death Machines! It’s a kung-fu disasterpiece featuring zombie warriors, shamelessly clueless cops, a Yakuza dragon lady, and dialogue that would make the Shaw Brothers cringe. One of our very favorites — a can’t-miss!

There’ll also be stand-up comedy from Jake Weisman (from the sketch group Women) and Kyle Clark (Nerdist podcast), and FREE POPCORN! Churn yourself out to the show! Ages 16+.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Thank you all so much for your continued support of the showroom. Follow us on Twitter and track us on our blog for more info about any of these shows!
