April 15th at 7pm it’s Writer’s Guild Foundation Presents Genre Smash!

The hard part of putting on an event featuring uber-mega-macro-mega-prolific TV and web writer Jane Espenson is that it’s hard to figure out what to focus on. Should we talk about her beginnings on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, where she wrote some of the most re-watchable episodes ever? Or Husbands, the insanely popular and timely webseries she co-created, which was the first webseries ever reviewed by The New Yorker? Or Once Upon a Time, which pulls consistently great ratings with its modern take on fairy tales? Or her work on Battlestar Galactica or Torchwood or that one episode of Game of Thrones she wrote or the cool Jane Austen-y episode of Firefly she wrote or her incredible reputation as a blogger or her valuable work on the metaphorical understanding of event structure in the English language alongside world-renowned cognitive linguist George Lakoff? It’s all of the above. It’s April 15. It’s Genre Smash.

$15.

April 15th at 9pm it’s Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction!

Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction is a comedy show and Nerdist podcast founded in Seattle, created & hosted by Bryan Cook. Each event features 10 comics, writing and performing Erotic Fan Fiction pieces, based on their whims or audience suggestions. It’s really stupid. Featuring Andres Du Bouchet, Eliza Skinner, Matt McCarthy, Ian Karmel, Matt Kirshen, Matt Knudsen, Andrew Orvedahl, Alice Wetterlund, Lisa Best, and Chris Thayer.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

April 16th at 8:30pm it’s The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail!

Meltdown NerdMelt Showroom

Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani helm the good ship Meltdown every single Wednesday, to host the show that’s been named one of the best live shows in LA by LA Weekly, Splitsider, and more. At The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, you’ll see some of the biggest comics, up and coming acts just before they get famous, and as always, surprise drop-ins that will knock your socks off. Featuring Brooks Whelan, Emily Maya Mills, Tommy Johnagin, Andres du Bouchet, Whitmer Thomas, Doug Benson… and a special guest.

$8.

April 17th at 9pm it’s The Tinkle Twins!

Hosted by Dana Gould and Arden Myrin, The Tinkle Twins! is a monthly variety show that features comedy from LA’s top comics, with the occasional magician or musician thrown in to keep things Tinkletastic! Featuring special Tinkle guests James Adomian, JC Coccoli, Ron Funches, Cameron Esposito, and Christina Pazsitzky.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

April 18th at 9pm it’s Horrible Movie Night!

Shout at the movies! We screen the worst films you’ve never seen, and invite YOU to roast them — the best one-liners of the night will win prizes. If you like MST3K and RiffTrax, this is your scene! Your hosts for the evening, John Mathot (Disney’s Phineas & Ferb) and Aaron H. Baker (Nerdist, Booze Cruise), will present 1989’s Laser Mission, starring the late great Brandon Lee! In this flick, Lee plays a mercenary sent by the CIA to seize a laser expert in Cuba. But the KGB is on his ass! Oh, crap! There’ll be great stand-up comedy, and also FREE POPCORN! Zap on down to the show!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Thank you all so much for your continued support of the showroom. Follow us on Twitter and track us on our blog for more info about any of these shows!
