This Man’s $300,000 Movie Collection Makes Us Jealous

In the digital age, it’s rare to find anyone who owns more than a handful of DVDs and Blu-rays. Home video sales have declined in the past few years, while non-physical media services such as streaming and video-on-demand have grown. Thankfully, the age of completely digital media isn’t quite here yet.

Casual movie buffs and extreme cinephiles alike can still pick up their favorite movie releases on DVD or Blu-ray to enjoy in the comfort of their own home. Some companies such as The Criterion Collection are thriving with niche catalogues of releases for cinema fans. Over time, film lovers can accumulate a decently-sized set. One man has the collection that could make any movie fan green with envy, though.

Theo Kalomirakis, a designer of custom home theater systems, has one of the largest private movie collections in the world. His library is made up of over 15,000 titles and is valued at $300,000. Although Kalomirakis says he has only seen about 200 films or so in his collection, that hasn’t stopped him from adding to it. Not simply composed of DVDs and Blu-rays, the vast movie library also contains a sizable amount of laserdisc and VHS releases.

“The only [other] person that I know who has a serious collection is Martin Scorsese,” Kalomirakis told Forbes in a video interview. When the only other private movie collection that rivals yours is owned by one of the greatest filmmakers of all-time, I think you can cite that for some serious cinephile cred. Perhaps one day we can dream of getting an invite to explore this marvelous cinema library of wonders.

What do you think of this crazy awesome collection? More importantly, what kind of snacks would you bring for a movie marathon at this place? Let us know in the comments below!
