This Guy Dressed as Charmander Played Flaming Bagpipes While Standing on a Pokéball

Pokémon Go PokéStops are a great opportunity to restock on key items and all that jazz, but there’s a particular PokéStop in Portland, Oregon that is a step up from most other ones. If you already read the headline, there’s not much more explaining we can do that will make this video seem any more interesting or outrageous.

Regardless, here’s what’s going on: Brian Kidd, known as “The Unipiper” for his signature ability to play fire-spitting bagpipes on a unicycle, recently took to this particular PokéStop in a Charmander costume, balanced on top of a giant PokéBall, and played his flaming instrument. His song selection, the original U.S. Pokémon anime theme song, was especially appropriate.

This feels like something that could be in the next season of Portlandia, really: It’s based in pop culture but decidedly tangential to it; it’s quirky and odd, but relatable enough to have a somewhat universal appeal; and we can absolutely picture this being a Fred Armisen character. But anyway, that’s it: We’ve reached peak Pokémon. Everybody else feel free to try, but as far as we’re concerned, this is what all the Pokémon and Pokémon Go hype has been building towards: A guy in Pokémon pajamas playing bagpipes near a tower of children’s bicycles.

If you recognize the Unipiper at all, it’s probably from his previous viral hit, a battle of the bands in which he, as Superman, takes on a ukulele-playing Batman, both performing their respective theme songs. We didn’t think it possible to build a web presence on a foundation of bagpipes, so credit where it’s due to you, Unipiper.
