This Death Star Piñata Is Fully Operational

Summer is approaching, outdoor party season is nearly here, and the best outdoor parties have piñatas. It is known. They’re usually reserved for occasions like birthdays, but you can hang a piñata at any time for any reason. And yeah, you can purchase piñatas from a party supply store but if you decide to invest the time to make your own, you can construct it in the image of the Death Star. Bonus: There’s no need to risk your life by stealing the plans from the Empire. You can just follow Imgur user freakazeud’s tutorial.

Freakazeud crafted the battle station from your basic paper mache supplies: a beach ball, newspaper, and paper mache glue (it’s possible to make a usable glue from water and flour). Building the Death Star takes the patience of Yoda because you have to wait for the layers of newspapers to dry thoroughly in between applications. The more layers, the sturdier the piñata will be. Once the shell dried, freakazeud pulled out the deflated beach ball and made it fully operational–and by that, I mean the crafter made it look like the Death Star with paint and straws.

I was going to say the Emperor would be proud, but this Death Star was built to be destroyed by younglings with lightsaber pool noodles. Because the best part about making a piñata is wrecking it, be sure to flip through the gallery of the Rebel Alliance–I mean, the kids–destroying the Death Star. Fly to the comments and let me know if crafting a Star Wars piñata is suddenly on your summer to-do list.
