This Chain Chomp Cat Bed is Purrrrrrfect

We all know that cats sleep a lot. Aside from silently judging you, knocking over things, chasing rodents, and finding new ways to get in the way, it’s safe to say catching some sweet Zs is one of their favorite hobbies. So, since they’re going to do it anyway, pet owners might as well find a resting place that doubles as nerdy decor, right? The folks at Catastrophic Creations clearly think so, as evidenced by the (now sold out) Chain Chomp Cat bed they have listed over on their online store.

According to the official site, the bed–which you can check out at the top of the page–was originally going to be a litter box. At some point during the “incredibly long amount of time” it took to craft the creation, the designer decided to go a different route. The Chain Chomp–in case you didn’t already know–hails from the Super Mario series, straight out of the Mushroom Kingdom. As you can see in the above image, it looks like two or three cats fit in the bed. But, if you’re not much of a cat person, you could always pick it up for a small dog, a hamster, a bunny, a monkey, or whatever exotic animal you’ve decided to open your home to. You could probably put a small child in it, but I wouldn’t recommend it, the teeth look sharp.

The artist explained, “I wanted to do something that could sit in a room as art, but also be a usable piece of furniture. For instance, the wooden box has hinges on the inside, so that it doubles as a storage space to keep kitty litter or cat food in. The whole piece (other than the wooden box) is made from hardened Styrofoam, including the chain. It’s multiple of layers of Epoxy and another product with a cement texture used over the Chomp’s body to make it look like metal. Its body is matte, and the inside of the mouth, the teeth, and the eyes are gloss to give them a wet look.”

Though it is currently sold out, there is a possibility the site will be giving one away. If it sounds like your jam, I’d head on over to the Catastrophic Creations website and put your name on the mail list if I was you. For a closer look at how it was constructed, as well as the finished (cat-filled) product, feast your eyes on the meow-lery below.
