The ghosts and goblins of All Hallow’s Eve are upon us, and that means it’s a most delicious time for frights, frights!, FRIGHTS! And what better way to spool up the spook factor in your life than with aâliterally eye-poppingâBlack Mirror-like short horror film? (And don’t say Halloween falling on a Monday so you have to go into work, we know all about that… frightmare.)
The short film posted below comes via /Film, and is titled Escape. It’s the brainchild (mmmmmm brains) of Pixar assistant editor/videographer Gairo Cuevas, and like Black Mirror, it explores the dark side of technology. Only Escape explores the real dark side.
The short starts off seemingly benign, but as soon as our protagonist puts on his crowdfunded “shades” he’s entered into an alternate universe, which is a bit like The Upside Down from Stranger Things. Once he’s there, well, we hope your halloween costume involves some kind of diaper.
If you’re wondering what “Temps Per Despertar” means, our lovely assistant Google translate defines the phrase in English as “time to wake up.” Which again reminds us of the spookiest thing we can imagine… alarm clocks.
There’s no word from Cuevas associated with the video or on his Twitter account regarding more to come for Escape, but that ending most definitely leaves us wanting more. And also maybe we should all call our moms.
What do you think about this spooktacular short film? Did it feel Black Mirror-ish to you, or more Goosebumps-y? And what’s scarier: these VR shades or those Snap Spectacles that want to record all of your life to Snapchat? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
