Things Get Creepy in the First Trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s THE STRAIN

One of the most mysterious new series of the year is FX’s upcoming adaptation of The Strain. Hailing from Lost’s Carlton Cuse and the one and only Guillermo del Toro, the sci-fi/horror series has been doing a fantastic job at creeping us all out with ominous teasers featuring nothing but eye close-ups, body bags and more off-putting imagery. We still say that first one with the rats is by far the most unnerving one, though. All that said, we’ve seen little (and by little we mean nothing) in terms of actual footage for the new series, but that all changes today with our first real look at the show in a brand new 30-second TV spot:

Based on the novel of the same name, this show looks absolutely fantastic. With movies like Pacific Rim out there, it’s easy to sometimes forget del Toro made his career off projects like The Strain – Mimic anybody? It also appears Cuse is continuing on his horror kick following the success of A&E’s Bates Motel. It will be interesting to see him team with another high-profile filmmaker who’s working at the top of their game.

In the summer, a good vampire series should play nicely against the crop of fun television series floating around on networks like USA, so bring it on FX: we’re ready.

What do you think of the first footage for The Strain? Do think they’ve done a god job at adapting the novel? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. David St. Albans says:

Loved the books, and the trailer looks good. As long as they carry through the production values and stick close to the book it could be a beautiful horrorshow.

  2. mpcuniverse says:

I am so amped to see Walder Frey play the old man.

  3. Tyson says:

    YEEsSSSS!

  4. 76Pauls says:

It looks neat.Did Fringe start the same way?

  5. I’m cautiously optimistic here.  The books were good, but the old hack and slash got a little old after the second one.

I feel like there is enough material here to do a really great mini-series, but I am willing to bet they expand on the source material and keep it running as long as possible.
