They Might Be Giants Mashed Up with THE WIZARD OF OZ is What the Internet is For

When Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1990, his main motivation, according to many historians, was for a bored teenager to one day mashup The Wizard of Oz with selections from the discography of They Might Be Giants. Well, good people of 2015, that day has finally come, and you can now watch the entirety of the classic Judy Garland-starring film while They Might Be Giants play wistfully and earnestly in the background. Suck it, Pink Floyd.

As The A.V. Club dutifully points out, specific song choices almost perfectly reflect various plot developments throughout the movie like “I Should Be Allowed To Think” playing the first time we see the Scarecrow, and “Twisting” soundtracking the tornado that catalyzes the entire story. However, I have to say that when “Boss Of Me” played during the intro credits, I couldn’t help thinking about Frankie Muniz, which was super distracting. But after that point, TMBG OZ‘s song selections were super on point. Given the fact that the legendary band have had 17 studio albums, I am impressed with this lad/gal’s curation skills.

What TMBG tracks would you have selected to soundtrack The Wizard Of Oz? Do you think Judy Garland would have been a super-fan? Sound off in the comments below.

Life is unfaiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
