There are few things we love more than well-executed wearable nostalgia. T-shirts fade and stretch, hoodies do the same, but footwear? You better believe we’re on board for anything nerdy on a shoe. A recent post on comicbook.com brought to light that for the latest installment in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle universe, Dr. Martens kicked it up a notch to release these turtlefied versions of their classic 8-Eye 1460 boot.
According to DrMartens.com, they’ve “joined forces with the bodacious Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to showcase four âmost-excellentâ styles of the crime-busting brothers…” and it’s clear they’ve not just phoned the designs in. All are made with the 1987 cartoon designs, but each is unique in its flourishes that seem indicative of its respective turtle. Leo’s no-nonsense (comparatively) boot is slightly camouflaged and reminiscent of a military style and therefore leadership. Mikey’s is noisy, silly and ostentatious. The other versions are close to the orderly style of Leo’s but with character tells of tough-guy grit and grime on Raph’s and the strong deliberate shape of the hexagonal structure on Donnie’s. Overanalyzing stuff is fun, you guys.
It also seems fitting that the good Doctor went with the quintessential 1460 boot for this line as it’s absolutely an icon of toughness when it comes to footwear. What may be the coolest aspect of this line of boots is the re-positional face masks that come with each boot allowing you to customize what foot is your best to put forward.  These all seem like boots the turtles themselves would wear assuming they’d be able to deal with wearing something with their own faces emblazoned on them.
These are available now on DrMartens.com at $150 for adult sizes and slightly less for junior and toddler. But let’s be real, considering the adult sizes of the recent Nintendo Vans pretty much all sold out, no one is really ordering these for their kids.
What do you think of the boots? Do you think they missed the mark by not making the toes of the boots turtle shells? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
