Although pinball might to some seem like an antiquated game, in the age of first-person shooters and tap-tap mobile games there are still plenty of people who are still very passionate about it. It makes sense: Pinball is a bridge between technological video game and analog, tangible toy, which very few people enjoy and appreciate more than Peter Rose, the owner of Sunshine Laundromat in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
In addition to housing washers and dryers, Sunshine Laundromat also has a plethora of pinball machines, some of which were made in recent years and some that are as old as 30 years. Regardless of age, all of the machines are carefully maintained by Rose, who you could call passionate: “I want to have the best,” Rose told Kotaku. “I want this to be a reflection of myself and the things that bring me happiness.”
The laundromat and pinball hallâwhich is also a bar, because who says we can’t have it all?âhas some relatively common pinball machines, based on media franchises like The Simpsons, The Sopranos, and Indiana Jones, but there are also machines like “Big Bang Bar,” a rare one that was made by Capcom during their foray into the pinball industry.
“So few people have even seen this,” Rose said. “There are, to my knowledge, three of them available to the public in the world. It so doesnât belong in a laundromat, so letâs put it in a laundromat.”
