There’s a JOHN WICK VR Game on the Way

What the Wick? Remember that sweet Keanu Reeves film that released last year? John Wick came out of nowhere and wowed both critics and film fanatics alike. With a sequel already on the way, Lionsgate and Payday developer Starbreeze Studios shocked fans today by announcing their partnership to create a first-person shooter virtual reality game based on the hit film.

Spearheading the development will be mobile game developer Grab Games, with Starbreeze set to publish. According to the press release, the game will be a “fully immersive VR experience” and will be a standalone FPS based on the world and characters of the film, “with the action centered around the infamous Continental Hotel.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with the best of the best in VR and game development with Starbreeze, WEVR and Grab, who are collaborating with the movie’s producers to ensure an exciting, immersive and authentic virtual experience,” said Lionsgate President of Interactive Ventures & Games Peter Levin. “John Wick is the perfect cross-platform property to extend into the fast-growing gaming world, and we believe that a cutting edge VR game will deepen fan engagement and accelerate John Wick’s evolution into one of our next big action franchises.”

The virtual reality studio WEVR, who was responsible for theBlue: Encounter, which was used to introduce the HTC Vive VR platform, will create an immersive introductory experience to the game. A demo will be available alongside the official launch of HTC Vive, and will also be available via Steam VR, with the full game set to launch some time next year.

Additionally, the new partnership between Starbreeze and Lionsgate will also bring even more John Wick crossover content to the popular Payday series. The reasoning behind this is to facilitate “cross promotion and integration of the two games.”
