The first major expansion to this year’s RPG hit, The Witcher 3, will be coming to you on October 13th. Titled Hearts of Stone, the expansion will add an additional 10 hours of gameplay to the already extensive amount of adventures on which players have been taking Geralt of Rivia. The new content is aimed at level 30+ characters, but can be attempted by players at any time, and does not require the main story of the original game to be completed. Along with the release of the teaser trailer above, CD Projekt Red offers a small explanation about what to expect from the new expansion on The Witcher‘s official website.
“Step again into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, this time hired to defeat a ruthless bandit captain, Olgierd von Everec, a man who possesses the power of immortality. This expansion to âThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntâ packs over 10 hours of new adventures, introducing new characters, powerful monsters, unique romance and a brand new storyline shaped by your choices.”
The expansion will also include a new game mechanic known as Runewords. CD Projekt Red has mentioned just how much Runewords can change up gameplay. In a statement, they said, “Each Runeword will impact different aspects of in-game mechanics, allowing players to experiment with various strategies and tactics.”
While the trailer does show Geralt being taken captive and approached by the mysterious Man of Glass to undertake a task, what it doesn’t show is the addition of two new locations to the game. Players will be able to venture into No Man’s Land as well Oxenfurt. This will mean longtime fans will get a chance to finally explore the University of Oxenfurt, from which Shani, the medic from the first game, hailed from. Oh, speaking of which, we will see Shani return in the expansion.
If these are not enough things to get excited about, CD Projekt Red plans to release physical, “boxed” expansion sets in specific retailers. Along with the download code for Hearts of Stone, the box set includes two physical decks for the games Gwent card game, as well as instructions to play Gwent with friends.
