THE WALKING DEAD Will Finally Get an Arcade Game in 2017

Aside from Telltale Games‘ excellent Walking Dead interactive drama series, AMC’s zombie blockbuster hasn’t yet received a video game that lives up to the television show or the comic book that inspired it. But that may soon change, now that Raw Thrills and Play Mechanix have unveiled an advance look at The Walking Dead arcade game.

As reported by Comic Book Resources, The Walking Dead arcade game will arrive in January 2017 as a sit-down cabinet shooter that even features a crossbow-style controller; evoking fan favorite Daryl Dixon. The game appears to be inspired by the show, but the new video doesn’t feature any of the likenesses of the performers from the series. And we’re not sure if the voiceover was meant to be Daryl-light, but that’s how the speaker came off in the clip.

The infamous prison appears to be one of the primary settings of the game, which offers players the chance to fight the walker hordes with hammers, pipes, dynamite, and even a few swift kicks. The interior of the arcade cabinet will also feature lights that react to the events of the game, and they will even grow darker as the player explores rooms with only a flashlight to see.

Given the size of this arcade machine, it’s probably destined to show up in Dave & Buster’s and other large gaming centers. We’re also hoping that this Walking Dead game adds a few fun minigames to its zombie slaughter. How about a Rick Grimes “stuff and thangs” interlude based on Rick’s waking hallucinations from from the third season? And is it too soon for a Negan minigame in which he uses his bat, “Lucille” to crush a few skulls?
