THE WALKING DEAD Stars Try Comedy on Red Nose Day

Earlier this week, NBC aired its annual Red Nose Day special to raise money and awareness for underprivileged children. The stars of The Walking Dead contributed to the event with a quick comedy sketch.

What’s with the unexpected crossover? It was all a mental exercise of Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln, both of whom played themselves as extremely pretentious actors. Lincoln even used an exaggerated accent to further the effect as he and Reedus wished for a version of their show that didn’t have so much horror, blood, guts, and horror. That’s right, they said horror twice.

That was immediately followed by a the fake opening credit sequence for the “lighter” and “sweeter” Walking Dead that featured a cameo from Jeff Goldblum and Yvette Nicole Brown as Daryl’s never-before-mentioned family, the return of Merle Dixon’s hand, David Morrissey as the Governor doing an Elvis impression, and Lincoln as a clumsy Rick Grimes who looked and acted like he escaped from Mayberry.

The Walking Dead fans probably looked at this video with an eye towards figuring out who survived the events of the sixth season finale. For the record, this video featured Sonequa Martin-Green, Steven Yeun, Christian Serratos, Melissa McBride, Ross Marquand, and Josh McDermitt. But since we only saw Lincoln, Reedus, and McDermitt on the set of the seventh season, the other performers could have taped their sequences at different times. So we probably shouldn’t make too much of the fact that we don’t see Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs, Danai Gurira, or Michael Cudlitz in this video.
