ABC presented its panels at the 2017 Winter Television Critics Association press tour, The Walking Dead finally released some new photos and a synopsis for the midseason premiere, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returned with an all new element to the show. It’s almost back. The Walking Dead put us all on an extreme roller coaster of emotions this season, and it’s only halfway over. That’s right, season 7B still has yet to torture us emotionally and psychologically with even more of Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) shenanigans. But thanks to AMC releasing some first-look photos and a synopsis for the second half of this season, we now have a glimmer of hope that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) may have found his fighting spirit again. The Coen brothers take on TV. Who’s ready for a trip to the old West? Joel and Ethan Coen are developing a Western TV miniseries called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which could also be released in theaters. The filmmaking brothers are teaming up with Annapurna Television, the recently launched side project of Annapurna Pictures for the project that will combine “an innovative television and theatrical integrated approach.” The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is being described as a Western anthology based on an original idea, written and directed by the Coen Brothers. Studio Ghibli returns! Despite Hayao Miyazaki’s retirement from film-making, Studio Ghibli isn’t dead just yet. Ronja, The Robber’s Daughter, an anime series co-produced by Polygon Pictures and Studio Ghibli, aired its 26-episode run in Japan starting in late 2014 and beginning on January 27, an English dub of the series will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. You’ve never seen effects like these before. Freeform’s sci-fi series Beyond held its TCA panel and the showrunners revealed some behind-the-scenes scoop about how they’re bringing their story to life using 3D CG technology on a weekly basis — something that has never been done on this level on TV before. Talk about groundbreaking. And Freeform seems to think so: the President crashed the panel to let the unsuspecting cast and showrunners know they earned a surprise early season two renewal! [Nerdist]
Marvel mythology takes over. It only took four seasons, but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally exploring the mythology of Life Model Decoys. The ABC series returned last night with May (Ming-Na Wen) replaced with an LMD without the rest of her team knowing. It’s elementary. Did you get your Sherlock Holmes on? Sherlock hosted a live mystery on Twitter yesterday. That’s right, Sherlock himself took over the BBC One Twitter account and all kinds of shenanigans ensued. “Well done to those who got it right … in the end. Delete your accounts those who didn’t.
