To paraphrase Breaking Badâs Walter White, AMC is in The Walking Dead businessâand business is so good that there is apparently no end in sight! Because we’re a mere three episodes into the sixth season and AMC has already pulled the trigger and renewed The Walking Dead for a seventh season of 16 episodes, set to debut in fall 2016.
Thanks to AMCâs previous renewal of Fear The Walking Dead (for 15 episodes), this means there will now only be 21 weeks in 2016 without a new episode of either The Walking Dead or its companion series. And by the end of its seventh season, The Walking Dead will hit 99 episodesâseven ahead of AMCâs Mad Men, current title-holder for longest running series on the network. But letâs be honest, The Walking Dead will probably get renewed for seasons 8, 9, 10, and beyondâso as long as it continues to be a ratings juggernaut.
And where The Walking Dead goes, Talking Dead is sure to follow! Nerdistâs founder and fearless leader, Chris Hardwickâs post-Walking Dead talk show was also renewed by AMC for its sixth season.
As part of AMCâs announcement, AMC President Charlie Collier released the following statement: “we are so proud to share these shows with fans who have been so passionate, communicative and engaged. We are grateful for and continually impressed by the talent, effort and excellence on continuous display by Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, Chris Hardwick, and the many people with whom we partner to make these unique shows possible. The result: More Walking and Talking. Hooray.”
The Walking Dead Season 6 continues this Sunday on AMC.
