Damon and Bonnie are going to regret killing one of the heretics on The Vampire Diaries.
Although Stefan created a careful truce with his mother, giving her and her chosen family of vampire/witch hybrids all of Mystic Falls as long as they didn’t hunt outside the town lines, Damon and Bonnie decided to ignore the deal and killed Lily’s favorite heretic “son.”
“The consequences to their decision to ignore everybody and take out Malcolm will be swift and uncomfortable,” TVD executive producer Julie Plec tells Nerdist. “Lily, as the maternal figure, the mama bear of this group, is extremely protective of her family. Not her sons, as we’ve seen, but of this surrogate family she pulled together. She is not going to be happy and when you rile her up she will take swift action. It’s actually going to mirror a story from when they were children, when Damon did something wrong and Lily reminds him that she knows how to make him suffer. She makes a very big move to make her point.”
And that will lead viewers into a whole new set of flashback scenes this season.
We get to see some really nice flashbacks this season. It’s so nice to be reminded of the early seasons of the show, when we go back to Mystic Falls in the late 1800s, and we see Stefan back in the days when Damon was off fighting in the Civil War, and eventually we get to go back and catch a glimpse of the boys when they were just kids. So we will be revisiting Civil War-era Mystic Falls several times over the course of the season.
She continues:
It’s great stuff, and those are some of our favorite things to do, like in the first season, seeing the boys before they were vampires and that life that they lead together with Giuseppe, their father who was so hard on them, and missing their mother who they thought was dead. We’re going to explore who these boys used to be.
Stefan’s going to have a lot on his plate already, since Enzo finally picked a side … Lily’s. And to show his loyalty to Lily over Stefan and Damon, he kidnapped Caroline in the final moments of the season seven premiere.
This episode, we will see Caroline being held captive in the Salvatore house which is no longer the home of our Salvatore brothers. Lily has taken it over with her heretics, and amongst them are three very nasty mean girls who we met in the premiere. They are enjoying making Caroline as uncomfortable as possible. And Enzo, who took a big step to show his loyalty to the heretics now has to realize that if you’re not actually one of them, it’s difficult to fit in.
She continues:
Not only does Stefan not take too kindly to this, he’s a little pissed off at Damon, because until Damon had gone and mucked things up, there was a truce on the table. A very carefully planned and agreed upon peace that Damon instantly ruined. In a lot of ways, Caroline being taken is Damon’s fault more than anybody else’s. That gives the brothers something else to fight about, which of course, I’m sure is what Lily wants.
Meanwhile, Alaric is going to continue to go down the rabbit hole in trying to bring his dead wife back to life.
Alaric is someone who, he himself has been brought back from the dead in pretty epic ways. So he’s just doing anything and everything he can, and this is his last bit of hope. He’s been knocked down so many times, he’s lost repeated loved ones at the hands of the supernatural world and he’s at his wits’ end in terms of how he can live without doing something to regain that piece of his life.
And yes, that means things are going to get even more worrisome for him.
He is going to be reckless, he’s going to be experimenting in ways that are not entirely comfortable and/or legal, he’s going to eventually have to bring in someone to help. In this case it will be Bonnie who is not at all supportive of what he’s trying to do. But when all is said and done, in Mystic Falls and in The Vampire Diaries universe, there is always a chance for a miracle. It’s just a really, really big long shot in this particular case.
