The Universe Mourns for Master Chief in Newest HALO 5: GUARDIANS Live-Action Trailer

Boy, I guess live-action trailers are all the hype these days. Not to be outdone by former Halo dev Bungie and publishing giant Activision, the folks at Microsoft and 343 Industries have released a live-action trailer for the upcoming game Halo 5: Guardians–which launches exclusively on the Xbox One next month on October 27. Much like the one for Destiny‘s fall expansion The Taken King, the TV spot aired during Sunday night’s NFL football game.

The video (above) is somber, grim, and downright depressing. In it, we see the entire universe listen in as a woman reports the unfortunate death of the heroic Spartan John-117 (aka The Master Chief). The reporter notes, despite the fact that the Chief wouldn’t want to be elevated above others, that it is important to not only acknowledge his passing, but to “fight together as he fought” and “end this, not be ended by it.”

According to the report, the Chief, along with several other people, died in the year 2060. But, the obvious assumption is that Chief’s status is going to change pretty quickly. As we pointed out in our preview of the game, there is a ton of stuff going on. First off, Spartan Locke and his crew are hunting the Chief and his group. From what we’ve seen so far, Halo 5 is quickly shaping up to be the largest, most engaging and exciting campaign yet.
