The Todd Glass Show
A special bonus and serious episode of the show! Todd and Paul F. Tompkins answer your emails and discuss some serious matters such as sexuality, society and politics.
Just when I think I couldn’t like Paul F. Tompkins more, he blows me away. I couldn’t be more impressed by how articulate, level headed, and compassionate he is, and how well he balances the strength of his convictions with an understanding of the reasons why others would have different perspectives. It’s great how he can be so erudite and poignant in one engagement, and then so hilarious in another.
And as a Todd Glass newcomer, I would be remiss in not saying that this is a great podcast and Todd does an excellent job addressing a variety of points with a mix of intelligence and introspection. This was a real joy to listen to.
Oh my, hearing PFT do the Philadelphia accent warms my Philly ex-pat heart.
As long as this kind of thing is around please keep doing your thing. Really good episode. http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/university-of-arizona-newspaper-publishes-incredib
Also, to address what Paul said about it bolstering the other side, I think it is the opposite. The anti-gay side’s attempts to claim marriage as their own have resulted in at least one fewer straight couple getting married.
Regarding straight couples who don’t want to get married, I have a couple of reasons why it makes sense for me:
1) If my state’s law is that marriage is an exclusionary thing, I don’t want to be a part of that. This reason has nothing to do with changing the hearts and minds of those opposed to gay marriage; I would simply feel uncomfortable with being part of that, much as I would not have wanted to attend a segregated school.
2) It serves as an opportunity to discuss marriage equality with others. I have had a number of conversations with people that stemmed from being asked about our marriage plans.
I agree this isn’t going to be what changes the world, but I find it to be a logical, consistent position.
Fantastic episode! Mr. Glass, you are really an inspiration. As somebody who’s considered myself “100%” since I can remember, you’ve reminded me that it takes more than an open mind to make a difference in this world. It takes vocalization, action, and persistence. Listening to this podcast inspired me to take that action and not just live with passive acceptance. It’s intelligent and caring people like you (and PFT!) that will end up changing our society and lives for the better, and for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Keep up the good fight!
Love PFT and Todd, great episode. You guys are fantastic when you are funny and fantastic when you are serious
Super wonderful episode … very intelligently done. Thoughtful and relevant! Thank you for being outspoken on this crucial topic.
First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.
Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.
Paul F, oh my you are my favourite comedic personality!
