The Teaser for Quentin Tarantino’s THE HATEFUL EIGHT Shows Us…Nothing

It isn’t all Star Wars and superheroes in the teaser department today; the teaser for Quentin Tarantino‘s next film, The Hateful Eight, also surfaced, though it most assuredly lacks in visual punch that the others had. But, hey, Tarantino likes to play things close to the chest, and with a premise as cool and promising as that of his second honest-to-goodness western film, we’ll be grand. This teaser was shown before Sin City 2 way back when but it was never made available online officially until now. Have a look!

Whereas Django Unchained took place decidedly before the Civil War, The Hateful Eight is set afterwards, in a snow-capped Wyoming winter wherein a group of strangers are snowed in and have to wait for it to clear before they can leave. Unfortunately, it seems, they’re in for some backstabbing and deceit. But, they’re bounty hunters and reprobates so it makes sense. Not the most ethically strong group, traditionally, especially in movies.

We learn who the Eight are in this, and though it doesn’t say which actor plays them, IMDb can help us with that.

1. Major Marquis Warren – “The Bounty Hunter”: Samuel L. Jackson
2. John Ruth – “The Hangman”: Kurt Russell
3. Daisy Domergue – “The Prisoner”: Jennifer Jason-Leigh
4. Chris Mannix – “The Sheriff”: Walton Goggins (yay!)
5. Bob – “The Mexican”: Demian Bichir
6. Oswaldo Mobray – “The Little Man”: Tim Roth
7. Joe Gage – “The Cow Puncher”: Michael Madsen
8. General Sandy Smithers – “The Confederate”: Bruce Dern

That’s quite a mix of people QT’s worked with before and people he hasn’t, and that doesn’t even include announced cast members who aren’t part of the Eight, like Channing Tatum and Zoe Bell.

My favorite part of the whole thing is that it was shot in 70mm and it proudly proclaims that as “Super Cinemascope,” which was how it was referred way back in the days before IMAX.

While this doesn’t show us much, here are a couple of trailers for movies that might or probably did influence this film, but will of course be totally different.

The first is one called Cut-Throats Nine, hailed as the most violent picture ever made (probably by them, for marketing purposes)

The second is a movie I adore called The Great Silence which is about bounty hunters in the snowy mountains of Utah.

And the final one, a scuzzy little flick called The Unholy Four, though that’s not necessarily actually an inspiration.

If Tarantino’s selling, I’m buying! But what do you think? Let us know your thoughts on The Hateful Eight below.
