The SUICIDE SQUAD Is Cornered In New Cast Photo

For the third movie in its DC Expanded Universe, Warner Bros. is putting the spotlight on a team of villains in Suicide Squad. Loosely based on the Suicide Squad from the comics, director David Ayer’s film will pit its titular team against Jared Leto’s Joker, which will undoubtedly be complicated by the presence of the Joker’s ex, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). Even under the best of circumstances, Harley is…somewhat unpredictable. But she’s definitely not a heroine.

“We all need good guys and everything — yay, good guys — but at the end of the day, they’re kinda boring,” said Ayer in a new USA Today interview. “They’re always going to do the right thing. When you’re dealing with the baddies, it’s easy to get ahead of the audience and invert expectations.”

Warner Bros. also debuted a new photo from Suicide Squad, with most of the team bracing themselves for a fight.

In addition to Harley, the new photo features Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Deadshot (Will Smith), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney). Note the fear in the eyes of everyone except Harley, who seems delighted by the turn of events.

Ayer also touched upon Ben Affleck’s appearance as Batman in the Suicide Squad movie.

“We made him fight,” related Ayer. “He’s awesome (as Batman). … You really sense that but for the grace of God, he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world.”

Suicide Squad will be unleashed in theaters on August 5, 2016.
