If the trailers are any sort of indication, Suicide Squad is going to be one insane film. The David Ayer-directed movie featuring Task Force X is so far doing a good job showing what happens when you take the worst of the worst in the DC Universe and try to get some good out of them. If this new poster is any indication, then audiences are going to get pulled in all sorts of directions.
First posted by Ayer today on his Twitter account, with a bigger version at Batman-News.com, it looks like a MAD Magazine cover with Alfred E. Neuman replaced with the movie’s cast. There looks to be no rhyme or reason to any of the drawings, until you pull back and see a mushroom cloud-shaped outline in all the color: mass destruction wrapped in bright whimsy and chaos, just like the Joker and Harley Quinn. I am glad that in addition to the entire squad, they added Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. Whether you have seen her previous incarnations in comics and television, there is a definite argument that Waller is just as crazy as the team she has put together. In all the chaos of this poster, there actually WAS a plan.
Suicide Squad, also starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jai Courtney, opens in theaters August 5th.
So what do you think? Do you feel Suicide Squad is going to be as insane as this poster? Will this film be the boost the DC Extended Universe needs? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
