Despite having been released back in July, the hype train for Stranger Things keeps on rolling—probably because there’s just so much to love about the show. That cast is engaging both on and off camera, the plot is gripping, and the music has gotten praise for the sense of neo-nostalgia that it evokes. The creepy, electronic, instrumental theme music in particular sticks out, to the point where synth legends Tangerine Dream decided to have a go at it.

The song serves its function perfectly, but what would it be like if it had lyrics? What sort of words would be used to capture the spirit of this nuanced, dynamic show in under 60 seconds? Entertainment Weekly decided to ask Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp what they thought, and based on their answers, it might be for the best that the opening sequence is wordless.

It’s a tough song to ascribe concrete meaning to, but after the three transcribed the instrumental to an a cappella rendition, Matarazzo, in a stark reminder that he just turned 14, tried his darndest to come up with words that fit: “Will is gone. He’s dead. JK, he’s not. Barb is dead. Ha!” Matarazzo’s sense of satisfaction with those lyrics was so palpable that we had to make this GIF:

But they didn’t stop there: McLaughlin added the capper, “Stranger Things, it’s all about chocolate daddy.” And thus, the Stranger Things theme will forever remain instrumental, because as McLaughlin put it, “I think it would take away from the show if it had lyrics.”
