Star Wars is the gift that keeps on giving. New behind-the-scenes photos from the original trilogy still trickle out, cast and crew share anecdotes we’ve never heard before, and then there’s the upcoming sequel trilogy. The trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a wonderful early Christmas present and not just because it brought our first look at Episode VII. The release infused the Star Wars fandom with energy and even brought some skeptics back to the fold. Fans got inspired, and my social media feeds have been overflowing with discussions about the galaxy far, far away. It’s a beautiful thing.
Another positive side effect of the trailer is the plethora of parodies that have been posted on YouTube. We’ve seen a LEGO take on the 88 seconds of footage, a shot-for-shot match with the original trilogy, and even a version covered in lens flares. One popular parody idea is to re-create the trailer in the style of a given director, like Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Rushmore). YouTuber Jonah Feingold is responsible for this spin, and it’s spot on. He’s changed up the music, added lots of text, and included the all important camera shutter and Polaroid style shots. Watch:
By the description alone, you wouldn’t expect the sci-fi/space fantasy world of Star Wars to work in Wes Anderson’s style. But, they meshed together nicely. Now I’m curious. Maybe Wes Anderson will get to direct one of the spinoffs. It could happen.
