Melisandre Is Coming. Or rather, Carice van Houten–who plays Melisandre on HBO’s Game of Thrones—is coming to The Simpsons very soon. According to Entertainment Weekly, The Red Woman herself will be guesting on Fox’s long-running animated sitcom as Annika, a Dutch cousin of Milhouse’s. Her episode arc apparently includes introducing Bart to the world of e-cigarettes all while sparking up all of the romantic feels one gets with meeting a transfer kid. I’m guessing/hoping there will be no smoke monsters resulting from the duo’s vaping union.
Game of Thrones of course returns in just a month’s time, and we have plenty of GoT content for you to catch up on if you haven’t done so already. HBO just released a new trailer yesterday which we have here. Full confession, I’m not the biggest fan of the Red Woman’s shenanigans, but Carice van Houten is so great in the role that I always enjoy her screen time. Stannis may be Westeros’ biggest Debbie Downer, but Carice makes the scenes she has to share with him light up. By the way, does anyone else exclusively hear Brienne’s pronunciation of “Stannis” in your head when you read it? Oh, you do now? Good. When Melisandre is on screen, she’s not just preaching about the Lord of Light, she’s serving all that light on a silver platter. *snap snap snap* (Yes, I Z-snapped IRL. Don’t judge.) Seriously, her stare-downs are pretty awesome.
Carice is starring separately alongside the Tenth Doctor and Cedric Diggory in two upcoming projects. 2016 will see the release of both I Feel Fine with David Tennant and Brimstone with Robert Pattinson. The real van Houten will debut as the animated Van Houten later this Spring on the May 3 episode of The Simpsons, so tune in to get your e-fix.
