Salutations, Wednesday Warriors! It’s that time of the week again; time to storm the gates and bring home a fresh stack of new comics. Before you head to the shop, arm yourself with a few recommendations, and for you big spenders out there, we also have a complete list of this week’s releases. This time around we’ve got Batman teaming up with the Ninja Turtles, some dark crime noir, and another issue of superb Ninjak.

BATMAN/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #1

If the idea of Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles teaming up doesn’t get you excited, then you are truly lost, my friend. Outside of the awesome concept, this comic is actually really good. Fun, Ninja Turtle antics along with Batman fighting the Foot Clan and facing off with the Shredder? Come on, this is the stuff for which comic books were created! James Tynion IV has the script done perfectly and Freddie E Williams II delivers some truly stunning pages. Batman books can be a dark and brooding place; it’s nice to have a mini-series that is all about fun.

SNOW BLIND #1

Snow Blind is gonna be a sleeper hit that everyone will be talking about. It’s about family, lies, and mystery. Mark my words, this comic will be scooped up for feature film adaption in no time; it’s practically begging for the big screen treatment. The story follows Teddy, an Alaskan teenager, who discovers that his family is secretly in witness protection. Of course, as Teddy will learn, this knowledge comes with a cost all its own. It helps that, besides the engaging story, it has glorious artwork from Tyler Jenkins. There’s a painted, almost watercolored feeling to the comic. It’s beautiful stuff that will leave you drooling for more. Issue #2 can’t get here fast enough.

NINJAK #10

Hard truth time: Ninjak is the greatest superhero of all time. He’s like James Bond, mixed with Batman, mixed with Iron Man. This issue sees our hero teaming up with Punk Mambo and journeying into the Deadside, a place Valiant Comics fans know all too well. Matt Kindt has been killing it on this book since day one and this issue is no different. Funny, fast, and unpredictable, Ninjak is what superhero comics are all about. You also get art from Doug Braithwaite, who is one of the smoothest storytellers in the biz. His detailed line work makes any trip to the Deadside and trip worth taking.

THE TWILIGHT CHILDREN #3

The Twilight Children is my favorite comic of 2015 that I can’t explain. I mean, it’s created by Gilbert Hernandez and Darwyn Cooke, so that right there should tell you it’s awesome. Cooke’s art is elevated by the stunning color work of Dave Stewart, which again makes this a no brainer. The talent involved is enough to sell this book on its own. Now, if you ask me what it’s about, things get murky. There’s a small town and these balls of light and a chick who is maybe an alien? All I know is, I can’t stop reading this comic. I never want to stop reading this comic. I love the characters, the art, the writing, the world, the colors, the lettering, all of it. I love everything about it, I’m just not sure what exactly is going on in it.
