Oh, Point Break, you just canât stay out of the news, can you?
A couple days ago, word came down that the upcoming remake of the ’90s Kathryn Bigelow surf-classic Point Break had hit a snag when Gerard Butler had left the project. Butler was set to play the Bodhi character made famous by the legendary Patrick Swayze. Currently, thereâs no one in the running to replace the Scottish actor, but that hasnât stopped the remake train from heading down the track, as another cast-member has been added to the film.
According to Deadline Hollywood, character actor extraordinaire Ray Winstone (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Edge of Darkness) has been tapped to play Pappas, the role Gary Busey rocked in the original film. Winstone will join Luke Bracey, whoâs set to play the Johnny Utah role, with a June production start currently being set with director Ericson Core off a screenplay penned by Total Recall and Salt scribe Kurt Wimmer.
So we have our major supporting cast member, our main good guy, and our director. The only question left to ask is, who will replace Butler in the Bodhi role? There are many possibilities for people who could play the character; At this point, most of the decision-making will likely come down to scheduling if the studioâs intent on maintaining the current production start date.
Who do you guys think could take over for Butler as Bodhi? Sound off below, and, no, the ghost of Patrick Swayze is not an acceptable answer.
