The POINT BREAK Remake Gets a Trailer

In 2001, The Fast and the Furious appeared to borrow the plot of the original Point Break before becoming an international box office sensation with six sequels. But can the cinematographer of the first Fast and the Furious movie pull off the same trick twice?

Director Ericson Core is getting his chance later this year with the long awaited remake of Point Break. The original Point Break came out in 1991 and it was directed by Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow. That film followed Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Utah, an FBI Agent who was sent undercover to catch a group of surfers and thieves led by a man named Bodhi (Patrick Swayze).

For Core’s remake, the surfer thieves are now a gang of extreme athletes, much like Johnny Utah himself. Luke Bracey is the new Johnny Utah, while Edgar Ramirez will attempt to fill Swayze’s shoes as Bodhi. Teresa Palmer costars as Tyler Endicott, a part that was played by Lori Petty in the original, while Ray Winstone takes over Gary Busey’s role as FBI Agent Angelo Pappas.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the Point Break remake, and it shows off a bigger scale than the original film had, as the action appears to be taking place all over the world. But there’s still surfing scenes, for fans of the original movie.

Prior to writing the script for the Point Break remake, Kurt Wimmer was credited with the screenplay for the Total Recall remake that came out in 2012. But we’ll have to wait until December 25, 2015 to see how this Point Break stacks up against the original.
