The 87th Academy Awards ceremony was a night of stirring speeches, emotional musical performances, and Neil Patrick Harris. Neil has been on record saying he was quite nervous about hosting what is referred to as “the biggest night in Hollywood” despite his experience hosting The Tony Awards and The Daytime Emmy Awards before. It seems these nerves didn’t stop at the door, as many have commented on the awkward and nervous nature of Neil’s hosting gig. Sadly, after several opening jokes fell flat, it seemed NPH’s confidence in the show’s script was shaken and it showed as the night continued. Well, leave it to the internet to take a rather awkward night and make it even more awkward.

 

YouTuber Bill Smith has uploaded the video above for a series of his in which he removes the dialogue from television clips and leaves in reactions and environment sounds. The video depicts an even more awkward award show than what we got. The video is three and a half minutes of Neil Patrick Harris unsure of what to say, and the crowd unsure of how to react to it. The cherry on top has to be Neil leaving the stage and returning in nothing but his underwear. Originally the bit was part of a Birdman spoof, but Smith’s version leaves out most of the opening to the joke, making NPH look like he is having a legitimate psychotic break in front of the celebrity audience.
