For Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), the only thing more terrifying than losing your family after thousands of years is losing your life after thousands of years.
That’s right, The Originals may have just found a way to put the immortal Original vampire/werewolf hybrid’s life in danger when The CW’s supernatural drama returns next month for season three. The network just debuted a new, extended trailer for the new season, revealing a mysterious prophecy that is sure to set Klaus on high alert. Not only is he “scared” (well, according to Cami [Leah Pipes] anyway) because the people he loves are angry with him, but this prophecy warns of something much more disastrous coming for the Original family.
“Beware, what you’ve broke is past repair,” the prophecy warns. “As your family is undone, you’ll see the beast that is to come.”
Can you say spooky much?! The threat of death couldn’t come at a worse time for Klaus and his siblings, since Elijah (Daniel Gillies) is still furious at his brother for killing his girlfriend Gia (Nishi Munshi) right in front of him just to prove a point, and Rebekah (Claire Holt/Maisie Richardson-Sellers) is still missing in action after leaving town with her Original body in a casket to get away from Klaus and live a human life. And not only is his blood family angry with him, but his baby mama Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) is cursed to live in a wolf’s body until the full moon comes each month as a result of Klaus’ treachery last season, so she’s not exactly feeling all warm and fuzzy towards the father of her child at the moment.
But this “beast” the prophecy speaks of … is that related to the Trinity, aka the first vampire Klaus ever sired, the first vampire Elijah ever sired, and the first vampire Rebekah ever sired? So far we know that the Trinity is coming to New Orleans to confront their “parents” over a sire line war that’s brewing, and we get our first glimpse at Klaus’ progeny Lucien (Andrew Lees) in the new trailer. Lucien is described as a smart, charming, wildly successful guy who prides himself on being two steps ahead of everyone else … hey, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! “Your family is divided and weaker than you have ever been,” Lucien taunts Klaus in the trailer. And when Elijah boasts to Lucien that they can’t be killed, Lucien replies with a confident and ominous, “You’re wrong.”
But this sire line war won’t only affect the Original siblings. Everyone in New Orleans is vulnerable to an attack, including Davina (Danielle Campbell). Even though she’s taken over the leadership of all the witches in the city, she’s still just a teenage girl, and when she gets attacked early on in the season, she goes to her former guardian Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) for help. But Marcel is busy forming a vampires-only fight club, and his first instinct is to respond with violence, or rather, a “show of force.” Something tells us that isn’t going to be good advice for the young witch who is still learning the full reach of her new powers.
