It’s been half a decade since the American incarnation of The Office wrapped up its incredible nine season run, and yet it’s once again making news. Long time fans may recall the saga of the Scranton Strangler, which played out in the background of Dunder Mifflin’s incredibly toxic workplace. The truly hardcore among us may even remember the Strangler was unmasked as an unassuming man named George Howard Scub. Or was he? Could the real killer have secretly been in the office all along? Today’s Nerdist News is taking a look at the evidence pointing to a very familiar face.
Join guest host Amy “That’s What She Said!” Vorpahl, as she goes over the clues compiled by internet sleuth, Spencer McClure, who laid out a pretty convincing argument which placed the blame on Toby Wyatt Flenderson.
‼Conspiracy Theory‼
For my fans of The Office… Toby Flenderson is the Scranton Strangler. And Iâll tell you why… pic.twitter.com/DYuUb1q3NYâ Spencer McClure (@spencermcclure_) March 11, 2018
McClure isn’t the first fan to suspect Toby, but he may have made the most compelling case against him by putting together a psychological profile to establish motive and opportunity. Poor put-upon Toby had an unrequited crush on Pam, and it may have not been a coincidence when the Strangler struck again while she was giving birth to her child.
Toby was also conspicuously absent when the characters watched the Strangler attempt to escape the police on live TV, while driving a car just like Toby’s vehicle. And was it a coincidence when Toby found himself named to the jury for the Strangler’s trial? Or when Toby visited Scrub in prison because he was convinced of his innocence? Scrub allegedly attacked Toby during the visit, but we never saw it happen. Did Toby confess his sins to an innocent man, who went on to attack him? Or did Toby fake the attack to further strengthen his frame-up? We may never know for sure, but it sure doesn’t look good for Toby at the moment.
