The Next Season of MYTHBUSTERS Will be the Last

It’s a sad day for science.

A surprise announcement from Discovery Communications today revealed that after 248 episodes, 2950 experiments, 1050 myths, and 900 explosions, the final season of MythBusters will air on January 6th, 2016. Hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman are calling it quits after 14 years of putting their bodies on the line for science, nerdery, and knowledge.

“Making MythBusters has fundamentally and irrevocably altered the way I think as a person, as an artist, and as a scientist,” Savage said in a press release. “I’m glad for the chance to say goodbye with some of the best television we’ve ever made. I will miss making this show.”

The final season of MythBusters won’t be a normal one. The duo wants to say goodbye with some of the biggest and most requested myths ever. Fans can help send off the show as well by using the hashtag #MythYouGuys on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to suggest farewell myths and experiments. Adam and Jamie will also have their own, personal goodbyes for fans.

And to close out what is nothing less than the single most impactful science show of the last decade, Science Channel will air a mega-marathon of every MythBusters episode ever, in order. Starting Wednesday, December 23rd at midnight, and ending on Sunday, January 3rd at 8pm, fans can watch an uninterrupted stream of every test, every explosion, and every singed eyebrow. “Jet-assisted Chevy” will kick off the marathon, and “Star Wars: Revenge of the Myth” will end it.

MythBusters has been a pillar of science programming since many of its diehard fans were kids; it will be very hard to see the show go. But here’s to hoping we’ll see Adam and Jamie, and especially Kari, Grant, and Tory, in their next adventures soon.
