The New THE DARK TOWER Trailer Shows Idris Elba Shooting Just About Everything

Sitting pretty as the top priority of the ad campaign for the long-awaited film adaptation of The Dark Tower, which has just released a new trailer, seems to be the assurance that the Gunslinger will more than live up to his name. This recent peek at the adaptation of the beloved Stephen King series manages 27 close-ups on the rogue hero’s weapon of choice–17 of which feature the firing of a bullet or two–in a meager 100-second span. Though plenty of questions remain about the measures Sony and director Nikolaj Arcel will take to render the epic novel series on the big screen, we indeed do seem to be able to count on Idris Elba packing as much heat as Roland Deschain’s nom de guerre would suggest.

Beyond just showcasing Elba’s handiwork with a pistol, the new trailer for The Dark Tower gives us a glimpse of some of the film’s otherworldly elements: namely, portals, monsters, beams of light shooting up into the sky, and–perhaps the otherworldliest of them all–an ever-glowering, gait-unbreaking Matthew McConaughey. The latter plays Elba’s chief adversary, the Man in Black, whose penchant for catching bullets with his bare hands (and from behind, no less) just may render the art of gunslinging a bit less intimidating than it might otherwise be.

Are they relying too much on ballistics to lay down the intensity of King’s story, or does the action look right on the money? Check out the trailer above and let us know what you think.
