The Nerdist Channel Presents “Ain’t it Cool with Harry Knowles” #1

Thursday’s debut on the Nerdist Channel is Ain’t It Cool with Harry Knowles, and I trust you’re all very familiar with Harry and Ain’t it Cool News — after all, the site’s been around since ’96 — but what’s the show about? You won’t be surprised that Harry has some talk about upcoming movies, but he’ll also show you some of his extensive memorabilia collection. For example, today’s edition includes a look at the script for Prometheus and a brief defense of some of the controversial elements we know about Michael Bay’s Ninja Turtles, but Harry also shows off a prop from the original 1933 King Kong. Watch the episode by clicking here.

Ain’t it Cool will be available every Thursday at the Nerdist Channel. If you want to know exactly when it posts and what’s on the show, there’s a simple solution: Subscribe by clicking here.  Cool?  Cool.

    Harry Knowles. Oh wow.

I think the first time I learned about him was when Titanic was released…originally…1997? My family had an AOL account and the computer was in my bedroom. That amuses and embarrasses me on levels.

I’m definitely gonna listen, though the thought is giving me a bit of anxiety. I am aging. Damn.

“You can dress up your girlfriend in one of these costumes”
    wow…

I expected to love the crap out of this, just like I love the crap out of pretty much everything you people do. but that actually hurt.
I mean it’s nothing new, that we non-heterosexual-males feel like a show is telling us to move on because it’s not for us, happens all the time. We’re quite used to ignoring that, translating sentences like that into something else in our heads because we assume “they don’t really mean that”. we have to. all the time. could be wrong though, easily. just as your assumption that your audience is purely made of heterosexual males is wrong. always. so then I’m left with the feeling of “they either don’t expect me to watch or they don’t want me to”. experience that a dozen times per day and it starts to make you angry and sad.

and I don’t even want to think about the scenario that sentence paints either, I mean is that “girlfriend” even alive? Or are you catering to that part of your heterosexual & male audience that dates dolls?

I know, I know. you didn’t mean it like that. of course not, that would be awful. and stupid. and gross.

sorry, had to get that off my chest. it’s one of those days.

Really glad you guys are doing this show! Great idea. There are very few scenarios though, where a 5 minute show is what I’m after. Feels kinda like putting one chip in a bowl. If I’m looking to watch/listen to something, I’m usually in for 15 minutes minimum. Just my take.

  5. Nathaniel H. says:

Wow… I’m not a movie nerd and I don’t read AICN, but I still enjoyed this! Love the choice of style and echoes of old shows and the whole basement set! (Or is it his real basement?)

When the pipes started going crazy, I assumed Father Geek flushed…

  7. Curtis says:

Enjoyable. Reminds me of the old Tales from the Crypt in the style a bit. Also, Knowles doesn’t look like he could possibly be a real person, probably an animatronic.
