The Must-Know Details of GRAND THEFT AUTO V REMASTERED

When Grand Theft Auto V dropped last year, many fans considered it to be their final purchase in the PS3/Xbox 360 era since they already had their eyes set on dropping $400+ on a PlayStation 4 or an Xbox One. Others were confused as to why Rockstar didn’t just wait and release the game on next-gen systems, but with the issues that Grand Theft Auto Online has seen since its launch, everything is beginning to make sense.

GTA V is finally hitting its stride and becoming what Rockstar envisioned, and just in time for its debut on the PS4 and Xbox One. If you’re searching for valid reasons to drop another $60 bucks for the remastered version of the game, here’s a list of changes, additions and upgrades to expect when the game hits PS4 and Xbox One this week.

Graphics buffs galore!

Grand Theft Auto V wasn’t a bad looking game on the PS3 and Xbox 360 by any means, but that doesn’t mean some buffs in the graphics department aren’t welcome when the game hits the new generation of hardware. Rockstar spared no expense in this department, improving character models, increasing resolution and draw distance, making multiple tweaks to the game’s user interface, adding a new foliage system, and much more. In fact, here’s a list of visual improvements straight from the folks at Rockstar Games:

Dynamically adaptive depth of field
Increased particle effects quality and number of particle effects rendered on-screen at once
Improved wind dynamics for clothing, flags, foliage, trees and more
More realistic fluid dynamics
Improved weather effects
Improved damage effects
Volumetric light pollution
3x number of light sources from 360/PS3

On the subject of resolution and frame rate, the game will run in 1080p 30fps on PS4 and Xbox One, while running in crystal clear 4k resolution for the PC version.

GTA Online bringing in old and new.

It’s the small details that count, especially when they’re in abundance. Grand Theft Auto Online will be bringing a plethora of minor updates to the PS4/Xbox One versions this week, including all content from the 11 updates that the online component has already seen on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Here’s the full list:

Increased in-game player count from 30 + 2 spectators
New character creator with visual and ease-of-use improvements
150+ new props included in the GTA Online creator tools and double the prop placement
A new lobby option that allows players to lock a job to first-person or third-person mode.
All existing gameplay and Rockstar-created content released since launch will be available including the additional:

  • 29 vehicles
  • 12 weapons
  • 79 tattoos
  • 81 hairstyles
  • 941 clothing items
  • 24 toasts
  • 21 vehicle mods
  • 12 apartments

Probably some of the best news about GTA Online is that the game will support cross-platform and cross-game saves, meaning you can take your character and everything you’ve acquired in the world of Grand Theft Auto Online to the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, or PS3. Anyone who pre-ordered the game will get $1 million dollars to start off their GTA careers, while returning players will receive the following nine bits of exclusive content, all of this being spread across both GTA V‘s main story and online components:

First-person mode

Surely you’ve heard us raving about Grand Theft Auto V adding a first-person mode to the next-gen version of the game, and it’s with good reason considering the amount of detail they put into making this mode a viable feature amongst the rest of the game’s rich content. This isn’t just some player-made feature that Rockstar adapted and polished for their own product– they used their own resources and carefully crafted a full fledged alternate GTA V experience.

First-person mode is available for both GTA V and GTA Online, right out of the box, and can be toggled with the press of a button. Rockstar made a slew of changes to accommodate the new perspective, including an option first-person cover system, a new targeting system, a more traditional FPS scheme, thousands of new animations and graphical upgrades.

There’s also a robust amount of customization options for the first-person mode, including the button layout, the field of view, the ability to remain in first-person while on foot but automatically switch to first-person while in a vehicle, and a whole lot more. It appears that Rockstar thought out this first-person mode way more than people expected.

So there you have it, ladies and gents! Hopefully this helps you decide whether or not GTA V is worth giving another spin, assuming you’ve been running about in Los Santos already. Keep an eye on our Twitch channel this week as I’ll be diving first hand into the game tomorrow at 2PM PST on New Game +.
