It’s surely something magical when the things we loved as children come back with a new, fresh spin designed to capture the imaginations of the next generation. It’s especially (and literally)Â magical when that thing actually happens to be a certain school bus!
The Magic School Bus Rides Again is the latest in modern reboots of decades-old series that we get to show the little ones in our lives. The new adventures are coming to Netflix on September 29th and will see Ms. Frizzle (voiced by Lily Tomlin) now going by “Professor Frizzle,” handing over the classroom and the bus’ keys at Walkerville School to her little sister.
Taking on the task of this new school year full of outrageous and impossible lesson plans is Felicity Frizzle (voiced by Kate McKinnon), who seems to wield the same reality-bending sorcery powers over the eponymous Magic School Bus (we’re guessing it’s similar to hereditary magic lineage in Harry Potter). Listen closely and you might even notice the familiar voice of Lin-Manuel Miranda singing an updated version of the show’s theme song.
We’re thrilled that this adds to the growing list of animated reboots of classic shows (like Ducktales and Voltron) allowing us to share a bit of our childhood with our own children, nieces, and nephews, or to, frankly, just feel like a kid again.
What do you think of the The Magic School Bus Rides Again? How perfect is McKinnon for the role of the new Ms. Frizzle? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
